Our Favorite Knoll Pieces

Our Favorite Knoll Pieces

For more than 75 years Knoll has remained true to the Bauhaus design philosophy that “modern furniture should complement architectural space, not compete with it”. A.K. Rikk’s also follows this narrative as we use Knoll products every single day on both our shop floor and in our office spaces. Some of our favorite Knoll designers have also created modern OUTDOOR furniture that embodies these guiding principles. Are you as ready for some comfort, style, and Vitamin D as we are?

Harry Bertoia

Bertoiaface   “Harry Bertoia was a complete and gifted artist. Knoll historian Brian Lutz once said “Bertoia’s paintings were better than his sculptures. And his sculptures were better than his furniture. And his furniture was absolutely brilliant.” Today Knoll carries on Harry Bertoia’s legacy of innovation, inspiration, and beauty with the Bertoia collection, which has been in continuous production around the world since its introduction.

Richard Schultz

schultzface Richard Schultz has long been an integral part of the Knoll story. After studying mechanical engineering and design at Iowa State University and the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Schultz joined Knoll in 1951. His graceful Petal Table, introduced in 1960, received the design award from Industrial Design magazine. After Florence Knoll moved to a seaside home in Florida, she started sending the design team rusty pieces of furniture, asking them to develop something that could perform in the salty climate. Schultz responded with the aluminum Leisure Collection in 1966. Now called the 1966 Collection, it remains the standard in modern outdoor furniture.

Euro Saarinen

eero-saarinen Born to world famous parents, architect and Cranbrook Academy of Art director Eliel Saarinen and textile artist Loja Saarinen, Eero Saarinen was surrounded by design his whole life. A schoolmate and great friend of Florence Schust, it was an obvious choice for her to invite Eero to design for Knoll when she joined the company in the 1940s. His impact on Knoll and the discipline of furniture design would be hard to overstate.
