Today, as a part of our Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's series, we would like to introduce you to Chris Stanko, the newest Personal Shopper! Chris is here to assist with completing looks and ensuring that someone feels picture-ready at all times. Get to know him better and find out why he’d raid Anna Wintour’s closet (fingers crossed we can tag along).
What initially drew you to A.K. Rikk's?
I was initially drawn to A.K. Rikk's because of the exceptional selection of merchandise.
What is your favorite part of working at A.K. Rikk's so far?
My favorite part of working here has been how welcoming everyone is! I have been blown away by the incredible amount of hospitality.
What is your favorite brand at A.K. Rikk’s?
My favorite brands here are Thom Browne, Etro, Rag and Bone, Zimmerman and KHAITE. Like I said, we carry a great selection.
What is a memory that stuck with you and formed your opinion of or love for all things style, design and fashion?
My first fashion-related memory was when I was a little boy. I had an obsession with the outfits worn by the Spice Girls. I loved that each dressed within her own identity every time they were seen together and they have remained a prime example of personal style all of these years.
What is the first thing you notice about a person?
The first thing I notice about a person is usually accessories. I love shoes so much and they are often purchased with intention, so I like to focus on them, especially when they are a wow piece that completes an outfit.
Who would you say is your number one fashion inspiration?
Carrie Bradshaw has always been such an inspiration to me. Mutual shoe love and her experimentation in looks (thanks Patricia Field) has always resonated with me.
Which types of clothes do you collect?
I really only collect sunglasses. I love that they always fit and they can be a finishing touch or focal point depending on the person wearing them.
Do you think there's a difference between fashion and style?
I think there is a big difference between style and fashion. Fashion is the now and the next and has a mirror held up to this moment specifically. Style is rooted in personality and comes as a culmination of multiple factors that have shaped someone and how one chooses to express themselves through dress and lifestyle.
What’s on your bucket list?
To see Paris and not just dream about it. The perfect opportunity hasn't occurred YET.
The book you could read again and again?
The Giving Tree. I love that the story is about being there for others when they need you most and despite how life takes you in a certain direction, there is always an opportunity to reconnect.
Most treasured possession?
On the tangible side of things, my most treasured possession is a pair of Chanel sunglasses from Karl Lagerfeld's final collection that he designed before his death. My most treasured nontangible possession is my tribe of people whom I'm extremely blessed to have in my life. I would not be me if I was not loved, supported and looked after by these people and to me they are more valuable than treasure.
You get to raid someone’s closet. Whose closet do you head to because you love their style?
It would be Anna Wintour's. I would hope, if she made the time for me to let me tour, that I would learn insight about why pieces were chosen and get backstories behind some of her favorite memories associated with the pieces in there.
What’s the one thing you wish you’d learned earlier in your career?
I wish I would've learned earlier in life to believe in myself. It is incredible to look back and remind myself that others believed in me when I did not. The wisdom to tell yourself "I’ve got this, even if I don't," takes time and comes without instructions.
