Top 4 Trends for Fall 2019
We get it. You’ve just started summer’s slow dance of lightweight dresses, sun-kissed skin, sandals, shades and a parade of pastels. We’d be remiss if we didn’t share our knowledge of what’s to come in the fall. That’s just who we are at A.K. Rikk’s. We’re the kind of friend that shares the secrets and tips because guesswork can be exhausting.
Take it from us, we partnered with Lambert + Associates--a European consultancy firm with exceptional expertise in the field of luxury and fashion--and the forecast for fall is something to contemplate because before you know it (or want it), summer’s sweet embrace unfolds and we want to help you explore what’s ahead.
We’ll ease into things with a little color story for the men. The fall landscape promises WORKWEAR BLUE reminiscent of shipping crates, storage units and uniforms. Think of a man working in a warehouse back in the day and that utilitarian vibe is spot on.
Keeping in theme is SIGNAL YELLOW. It’s an arresting visual. At once urban, unsettling and with a touch of danger/warning sign noticeability.
Indulge in TOFFEE DELUXE delivering a warm sugar coated comfort. Think tan trench coats, teddy bears and homemade fudge and you’ve nailed this color’s approachability.
TAUPE always evens the playing field. There’s an inherent trust in the shade and maybe that’s why we see it on so many suiting options. Load up on taupe for its sensibility, versatility and tranquility.
DEEP MAUVE is a trip into wine country with Merlot influences. It’s dark, moody and with ripe fruit connotations. You’ll be seeing this on scarves, coats and plush sweaters.
You’re no wall flower so you’ll appreciate STATEMENT BOLD on the scene. It’s all about primary colors that are a bit preschool decor but with a modern twist that’s fresh--not a color pop but a gut-punch from the rainbow.
NEUTRAL GREY has a sleek sensibility. Slate floors, marble staircases and concrete buildings rule here. It’s calming, serene and filled with a timeless grace yet tough enough to wear to the boardroom.
Fluorescent wins. ACID GREEN is the neon sign blinking on a dark night. This loud hue is artsy and toxic. You may wear it in full doses on a raincoat or add blips of it on your clothing radar in the form of soles on shoes, laces or on accessories. This color doesn’t know how to stop.
Expect a bit of moon landing chic with SILVER REFLECTIONS. It’s okay to space out here where the mood board would be a bit cold, metallic and masculine.
Taking a break from color, we see strong themes in the following categories:
URBAN REFORMATION means the people we love to watch on the streets, in the subway and out in public. Commuting to work, sneakers in motion and all the reflective bands you can add that scream in town and on trend. It’s sporty jerseys, all business in stripes and bags strapped onto bodies. It’s a field of logos and lanyards.
NATURAL DELUXE brings us back to our roots. It’s plush fabrics and cozy elements all in neutral tones. We jump into texture here with marbled knits, wool blends and cable knit scenery. It’s organic and it feels right.
QUIRKY CLASSICS can’t be anymore A.K. Rikk’s if we wanted it to be. It’s all about geometric prints, plaids and 70s trippy patterned sofas. It veers off into grandma and grandpa chic and we’re here for it. Shark collars, dogtooth prints and faux fur serve the look.
FUTURE ACTIONS belongs in the stars. It’s out there in terms of touches of neon, glass shard inspiration and far-fetched futuristic imaginings. Translucent plastics reign as well as anything with a metallic coating. It’s experimental attire worthy of boarding a spaceship. Rewatch the movie The Matrix and take notes.
Ladies, get a laser focus on the hues that rule this fall.
STATEMENT BOLDS have a candy store personality, all energy and on full volume. Looking at pinks you hear the bubblegum snap and you can almost smell the citrus dripping off the bold yellows.
TOFFEE is ultra luxe and sweetly disarming. It’s inviting and natural and is everything we love about brown shades found in wet sand dunes, cobblestone walkways and crème brûlée. This tone always put us at ease.
Ethereal and weightless, OFF WHITE is a visual palate cleanser. The mood here is almost bridal, fairy like and with a pristine spilled milk vibe. Beyond peaceful, this shade has a washed away serenity.
Join the MUSTARD club because the benefits don’t stop. The spicy undertones speak to wildflower fields and downtrodden yellows. It's a hue that shines on darker skin tones. This color brings a mood. It’s yellow’s cultured cousin.
SILVER is coming at us fast and the shine is alive! This color has built-in movement so however you wear it, it drapes the body like a liquid. There’s a metallic tang here so dresses, purses and tops are full force (so be ready to feel it).
MAHOGANY is a marriage of rich chocolate brown and black that exudes emotion. It’s deeply saturated and that’s the point. Trouser pants, jackets and fur elements will seem harsh, exotic and filled with desire.
All the warmth but with none of the heat of red, TERRACOTTA is an inviting sunset that you want to walk toward and crawl inside. It has roots and sort of tugs at your heart.
Prepare to be an AUBERGINE gal. It’s plum with a dose of drama that leaves you spellbound. It’s stop-in-the-streets provocative and wearing it means running the risk of being mistaken for a starlet. Not everyone will touch this and that’s why you should.
That’s a quick recap of what’s to come and it’s a lot to live up to. No worries, at A.K. Rikk’s, we promise to weave one theme throughout each trend and that’s the thread of luxury.
