Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's: Meet our Intern, Lexi Taylor

Today, as part of our Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk’s series, we are thrilled to introduce you to Lexi Taylor. Lexi has been a part of our store assisting the Visual department after school over the last couple of years. She is starting her senior year in high school and as she prepares for college, she’ll gain fashion styling and marketing experience through her work at A.K. Rikk’s. She’ll contribute to our team with weekly creative content aimed at Gen Z. We look forward to sharing more from her over the next semester.

What initially drew you to A.K. Rikk’s and what’s your favorite part of working at the store so far?

I first got to know A.K. Rikk’s as a customer. I became an intern in June of 2019 right before I turned fifteen. My favorite part about working at A.K. Rikk’s has been how friendly everyone is. I always feel inspired to come up with new ideas, and feel valid when I express them.

What is your favorite brand at the store?

My favorite brand would have to be Nanushka! They are a very ethical brand and know how to make sustainable fashion cool and chic. Coming in a close second would have to be Stone Island. I am in love with streetwear and am always down for wearing men’s clothing items.

When you're not at work, what could we find you doing?

In my free time you could probably catch me driving to Freshii to get a Tex Mex burrito, as well as drawing, painting and maybe watching a TV show when I get the chance. I really enjoy spending time with family and friends, and of course, I will probably be at school half of the time.

What fashion craze/trend do you think is silly?

Maybe denim swimwear? That might be where I draw the line--never mind, there is an occasion for anything and everything.

What color won’t you wear no matter how great the outfit?

I am not opposed to any specific color at the moment. Anything could look cool if it is styled well!

Who would you say is your number one fashion inspiration?

My number one fashion inspiration would have to be strangers I see in passing. They did not debate or plan the outfit for days or even weeks but they liked it, so they wore it. They aren't wearing those clothes because they have a red carpet or are going to fashion week but because they liked it. I mean, why can’t you wear red go-go boots to the grocery store? I have so much respect for those who wear what they want even if they know others might not like it.

Are you a sneakers or heels kind of girl?

Definitely sneakers.

How do you get out of the I-don’t-have-anything-to-wear rut?

I love to buy a new pair of shoes. Styling shoes that have a new feeling to them tends to get me out of my comfort zone and trying new things.

Favorite season to dress for? Why?

Definitely winter. I love layering, adding texture and doing that in the summer is a lot more difficult.

What’s the last nice thing you bought for yourself?

I bought myself a pair of black booties. I have been looking for the perfect pair for probably about a year now and I love them. They are the perfect staple piece that can work for nearly any occasion or season.

What are your plans once you graduate?

I hope to move to Savannah, Georgia and study fashion design and marketing at Savannah College of Art and Design.

What is your dream job?

My dream job as of now is a stylist. I love styling clothes and could never get bored of it.

This concludes our Behind the Seams interview. In the future, we’d love for you to like and engage in Lexi’s content to create an ongoing style conversation.
