Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's: Meet Emma Speers

Today, as part of our Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's series, we would like to introduce you to Personal Stylist, Emma Speers. She joins the stylist team for many reasons: to form relationships, help clients build confidence and joy in their wardrobe and to give them a truly unique and memorable shopping experience.

What initially drew you to A.K. Rikk's?

A.K. Rikk’s values the people they interact with. Whether it’s clients, employees, brand representatives or anyone else who they may come into contact with. Their knowledge and passion for the fashion industry is people centered.

What is your favorite part of working at A.K. Rikk's so far?

My co-workers! Getting to learn from them, laugh with them and feel more and more a part of the family.

What is your favorite brand at A.K. Rikk’s?

Proenza Schouler. It’s everything classy, fresh and artful you could want in a brand. Their pieces bring a playfulness to structure.

When you're not at work, what could we find you doing?

You could find me at home with my partner, our two dogs and our cat or at rehearsal for the dance company I’m in or enjoying time (and potentially a cocktail) with my wonderful friends.

What fashion craze/trend do you think is silly?

Maximalism. I love the whimsical nature and embrace of one’s personal style that is at the core of this trend but personally enjoy seeing a more balanced juxtaposition in looks.

If you were an inanimate object, what would you be?

A camera. Getting glimpses of the world through a photographer's eye would give a very unique perspective.

How do you get out of the I-don’t-have-anything-to-wear rut?

Finding one piece that excites me and planning an outfit around that or going on Pinterest, finding inspiration that I can draw from and challenging myself to create an outfit from it.

What’s your favorite weekend ritual?

Hitting up local thrift stores and sitting with my partner to connect about our week (ideally over brunch).

If you could lose yourself for one day, where would you go and what would you do?

Thrifting in either Paris or Tokyo. They have some of the most unique and hidden gems when it comes to vintage/thrifting stores and the good food their cities are known for wouldn’t hurt either.

If we scrolled through pictures on your phone, what would it mostly consist of?

My dogs and cat (in varying levels of chaos and hilarity), my partner Olivia and I on adventures usually involving delicious food and of course lots and lots of fit checks.

Have you ever been told you look like someone famous? Who was it? Jennifer Garner, especially in her 13 Going on 30 days.

Any TV series or movie you just watched and loved?

My partner finally got me to watch Gilmore Girls all the way through (very glad she did).
