Today as a part of our Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's series, we would like to introduce you to our Inventory Specialist, Theresa Barton! Theresa is a valuable addition to the A.K. Rikk's family! We asked Theresa what originally brought her to A.K. Rikk's and what makes her tick during her Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's interview!
Where are you from originally?
I was born and raised in Byron Center, MI.
What originally brought you to A.K. Rikk's?
My first time coming to A.K. Rikk's was the fashion show earlier this year, back in January. I had just met Brittany the day before the show, and she invited me to come. I couldn't believe my eyes. Stepping through the doors and going up the stairs and into the space where the runway was, I felt like I had been transported to New York City in an instance. I was in awe the whole time -- the models and music and even those who had come to see the show were inspiring. I thought to myself "if I could ever work here, it'd be a dream come true".
What is your favorite part of working at A.K. Rikk's?
The aesthetics. Architecture, interior design, and the clothing itself. There are so many textures, colours, patterns, styles... all seamlessly and effortlessly complimenting each other in one building. And then add in my co-workers with their own personalities and styles!! I haven't been able to find the word(s) that describes my everyday experience -- only that I still feel like once I drive into the parking lot of A.K. RIKK's, I have entered into a whole new world.
If you were to describe A.K. Rikk's in three words - what three would you choose?
1. Endless. The creativity, commitment to excellence, forward thinking, and drive to serve our clients and each other better has no limits.
2. Intentional. Not a single detail is left to chance -- whether that is in the design of the building, how we treat each other, the processes we put into place behind the scenes, how the Shoppers curate wardrobes, etc... it is all done with intention and with our clients in mind.
3. Community. A.K. Rikk's cares about giving back to our community and also creating experiences for our community to come in and enjoy!
What is the coolest place you've been on vacation? And why did it stand out to you?
It is a tie between New York City and Napa Valley, both such completely different experiences but equally the coolest places I've been on vacation. First, I am 100% a city girl. New York City just feels like home with the tall buildings, different architecture, honking horns, style, bright lights, food, cocktails, and shopping. Also, I love playing chess, so playing chess in Central Park is my favourite. I went there in the winter for New Years Eve two years ago, and went iceskating in Bryant Park. That was pure magic. One more thing, the boat tour around the island. I would do it again in a heart beat. Then there is Napa Valley. Driving through vineyard after vineyard after vineyard was breath taking. It was a quick trip, as San Fransisco was our destination, so we only had time to stop at Duckhorn Vineyards. But I felt like I was in a movie. The weather was perfect. The wine was perfect. The view was perfect. There wasn't a single detail that I wanted to change in that moment.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
If I could have one superpower, it would be Ma-Ti's (from Captain Planet) super power. Ma-Ti wields the powers of Heart and telepathy to instill caring, passion, and sympathy into the people of the world to care for the planet. He can also use this power to telepathically communicate with people and animals. I'd change the focus to not only care for the planet and animals (which are very important, indeed), but on humans and relationships and cultures as well.
This concludes this Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's interview. Next time you stop in-store, be sure to say "hello" to Theresa!
