Today as a part of our Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's series, we would like to introduce you to our Visual Merchandiser, Melissa Wise! Melissa has been a very important part of the A.K. Rikk's family for 8 months! We asked Melissa about her favorite part of working at A.K. Rikk's and what makes her tick during her Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's interview!
What initially brought you to A.K. Rikk's? I was recruited! I did my research on the company and was blown away at the level of talent within the building and the way that A.K. Rikk's gave back to the community. I immediately knew it was where I wanted to be!
What's your favorite part of working at A.K. Rikk's?
Hands down it would be the collaboration between departments and how we work together. At A.K. Rikk’s you get to experience everything first hand, unlike many retailers out there where you only see a limited scope of the process. I enjoy watching the Buyers do incredible work, from hearing their first hand experience and product knowledge from abroad, to seeing the product show up in-store to taking that product and creating a story through visual presentations is amazing. The real fun is then stepping back and watching the marketing team take it to the next level with our events. It truly is an incredible process.
When you're not at work, what could we find you doing?
You would find me spending time with my family! Family is huge for me.
What's a fun fact about yourself that many might not know?
I love to travel! My favorite trip so far is when I was able to travel to California by train. I was able to make stops along the way. One in Colorado to do some exploring and another stop in Salt Lake City for some of the best snowboarding I’ve ever experienced.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things would you want with you?
Sun block, a hammock, and a kayak! Is it cheating if I say a kayak? I just want to explore the island, not get off of it!
If you could spend an hour in the company of any famous person, living, or deceased, who would it be?
Banksy! His artwork is moving, powerful, and underrated. Also, I'm just so curious as to who he is! This concludes this Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's Interview! Next time you stop in-store, be sure to say "hello" to Melissa!
