Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk's: Meet Benny Armstrong

Today, as a part of our Behind the Seams with A.K. Rikk’s series, we would like to introduce you to the latest addition to our Visual Operations team, Benny Armstrong! Benny brings joy wherever he goes. Find out how he fits into our family (and his favorite wine) in his Behind the Seams interview.

What initially drew you to working at A.K. Rikk’s?

It’s the most glamorous store in Grand Rapids!

What is your favorite part of working at A.K. Rikk's so far?

The creative freedom and trust I’m given every day to create visually dynamic displays. In the past I have been told what to create, and here the world is my oyster. I'm so grateful that I get to express my own vision that impacts the clients so positively.

What's your favorite brand?

Brunello Cucinelli. Each piece is so easy to wear and can be used for multiple seasons. It's very refreshing to have a brand that creates such casual, easy looks with such luxurious materials.

What’s the most embarrassing piece of clothing you own?

A pair of socks with my cat Nancy’s face on them.

Favorite season to dress for?

Fall. It’s when I can break out my cute clothes and it’s not too cold. After the heat of summer and wearing shorts and t-shirts for several months, I love that I can expand my clothing choices every day and wear more dynamic outfits. Shorts are so boring.

How do you get out of the I-don’t-have-anything-to-wear rut?

I refer to really great outfits I've worn in the past or refer to an album of men's fashion I have saved on my phone and maybe take inspiration from that.

What is your power color?

I actually wear a lot of blue because it's such an easy color but the color I enjoy wearing the most is white because you can make it look so many different ways and it's a fun challenge for me to wear white and keep it clean all day (that means I wasn't a total slob during the day).

Who do you think has the biggest impact on fashion trends: actresses and actors, musicians, fashion designers or consumers?

I actually think the economy and current events impact fashion the most more than any other person or group of people. If you look at history you can see how trends change due to what's happening around the people wearing them. In my opinion, the celebrities wear the already affected styles.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Ice cream.

If you could lose yourself for one day, where would you go and what would you do?

I’d be at a 5-star safari in Africa.

How do you blow off stress?

Pinot Grigio

This concludes our Behind the Seams interview. The next time you stop into the store and find it organized, beautiful and inspiring, that’s Benny’s handiwork. Make sure you say hello and get to know his bright and bubbly personality.
