Golden Globes: A Recap

So last night's Golden Globes were hilarious for several reasons. The first being that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted. They demonstrated that you don't have to be over-the-top or outrageous to be funny. I just about died when the camera panned to Amy Poehler canoodling with George Clooney. The second reason is Jodie Foster's very confusing speech and appreciation for Mel Gibson. The speech itself wasn't funny, just how absolutely confusing it was (Did she just come out? Didn't she come out a while ago? Wait- what? Did she just retire?). The third reason was Lena Dunham trying to to walk in (Louboutin) heels, leading me to scream "just take them off!" at the television. Glenn Close's drunk impression was hysterical- love that woman. Lastly, some of the fashion from last night was a little "hilarious."

These were our staff's least favorites:

Dear Halle Berry (in Atelier Versace),

That dress is shifting things in all the wrong places.

Sincerely,

A.K. Rikk's

Jessica Chastain (Calvin Klein Collection), we love your movies, congratulations on the Golden Globe win, however, this is not working for you.

J.Lo in Zuhair Murad: This is a lil' much, girl. A lil' too much.

Lea Michele in Elie Saab. Girl, you are TINY. You know you are short! Why is your dress a thousand miles long?

And onto our favorites of the evening!

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen was Anne's favorite

Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka. This woman is always a knock out.

Michelle Dockery in Alexandre Vauthier: Andrea's favorite. Just, wow.

Kendra's favorite: Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera. We're not sure if we're digging her hair, but we love how she went out on a limb here and did something different from everyone else. There was a lot of monotony on the red carpet and we love that she stood out with something young and fun.

Sally Field in Alberta Ferretti

Blair's favorite: Anne Hathaway in Chanel.

Allison Williams in J. Mendel: Emily's pick. Those earrings are killer!

Ben's favorite: Julianne Moore in Tom Ford. This woman was prepared for the cold!

Ultimately, the Golden Globes is the award show to try something fun and not take yourself THAT seriously. A lot of the younger rookies went all out with elaborate dresses with trains and the whole ten yards (we're looking at you Taylor Swift) while the veterans (ie. Julianne Moore) showed up with beautiful dresses that were fun yet still formal enough for the Golden Globes. Save all that fancy stuff for the Oscars!

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

...the winner for "Best Dressed at the 2012 Oscars" goes to...

...yea..another tie. Kate Mara in Elie Saab and Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford! Kudos to Tom Ford and Gwyneth's stylist for shooting for the moon as far as creating a true "Old Hollywood" look, and pulling it off. Garbo anyone?

Who do YOU think should win?

Eli: Ermenegildo Zegna

Tom: Tom Ford

My take: In picking Zegna, Eli exemplifies the understated cool attitude of a calculated winner. Brady has swagger, and shows it by rocking Ford. My heart is in it for the underdog, but I'll take the Patriots on this one.

Tom Ford Documentary

If you missed this a month ago, it comes out on video for Christmas, hope it's in your stocking!

Crossover

Tom Ford did it first. A background in fashion blossoming into the directorial debut of his critically acclaimed film "A Single Man" which came out last year. Now there is a new kid in town. Kanye West just released the short, but intriguing trailer for his new film "Runaway".

"Lord, Lord, Lord" "Bad News" "Big Brother" just got "Stronger"
